Welcome! 5
So, we are a couple of Microsoft developers (MCSD’s) that have each been working with Microsoft technologies (most recently C#, Windows Forms, ASP.NET, XML Web Services, you know) for a decade. A couple of months ago, just for fun, we decided to give Ruby On Rails a try, on a couple of side projects. (After all, what self-respecting software developer doesn’t have side projects?)
To our chagrin, we actually liked it! In fact, we discovered, it’s way better than ASP.NET for doing 98% of the stuff that we need to do.
As of late, we also noticed that there are, in fact, lots of fine folks making the move from .NET to Rails. So, we started this site to (hopefully) be a resource for others doing the same thing we are, and to break free of that Windows mindset.
Warning: you LAMP guys and Rails experts might find this site to be a bit pedestrian. Please forgive us. We aren’t as smart as you are. :)
We hope you’ll find this helpful, and comments, suggestions, and you own articles are always welcome!
Good luck,
Brian and Jeff, the Softies.

I'm with you on Rails being a fun new set of tools to work with. I'm building a few apps in Rails as we speak.
Also, (I don't know if you've seen this or not) I'm also on the Castle Project (http://castleproject.org/) team and we have a .net version of the ActionPack idea called MonoRail.
It's pretty stable and it's a fun thing to work with when you are on on the .net side of things.
YOU GUYS ROCK!! I don't think that this site could of matched me any more!! I too, am a M$ developer (only 5 years...but hey, you know) for both my own side development as well as my day job. HOWEVER - at my new job, I am basically the only guy who is a .NET developer as everyone else is one of those open source freaks!! I had played with Rails before (and loved it) - I convinced them to let me redesign the web app in rails!!! CAN YOU SAY FIRED UP!?!?!? Soooo....to make a long story kinda short....I am friggin' excited to have found this site!!
Keep up the GREAT WORK! peri
Hi guys,
Great idea/site/blog. I'm an MVP, too in ASP.NET now doing Rails work. I put together a roll call page to see how many of us there are...feel free to append your names to the list at http://www.jasonsalas.com/2006/07/roll-call-for-microsoft-devs-using.html
Keep up the good work! Jason
Welcome Jason! It's funny, you're not the first MVP this week to contact us to say they're doing Rails now.
Keep in touch and we'll keep an eye on your blog - as an MVP I'm sure you've got a valuable perspective on the differences between ASP.NET and Rails.
