TextDrive: help me help you 6
Dear TextDrive,
I love you guys. Really, I do. I have a business account with you, and it’s been great. My side business that is going to help me break out of .NET corporate hell is hosted there. It makes me happy.
I also have a cheap, er, shared account. I got it during one of those neat VC things that you do. This little blog of ours and my rather insignificant site about beer lives there. Sadly, this server goes bye-bye all the time. The cron job that is supposed to start lighty when the server comes back almost never works. You told that I should host my production-ready web applications there. So I do. But it makes me cry.
I don’t go elsewhere because I want to support you. I want you to succeed. You’re the original (official?) Rails hosting company, after all. I suppose the fact that I plunked down 400 clams back in the VC days for “lifetime” hosting matters too.
Please help.
And thank you for listening.

Although I've never actually done any business with them, Planet Argon here in Portland, Oregon does Ruby on Rails hosting.
People seem to be happy with them and their business appears to be booming.
You might want to check them out (http://www.planetargon.com/hosting.html).
I'd like to give a second huzzah for Planet Argon. Great hosting plans. Reliable service. Very knowledgable staff (robby on rails!).
I too will vouch for Planet Argon. My blog's been there since day one.
www.dreamhost.com do RoR hosting as well. Lots of features and very good price.
Give A Small Orange (www.asmallorange.com) a try. Full support for RoR and Django using FastCGI.
Which server are you on? Burnaby? I'm on Chilco (one of the new servers, I think) and haven't had many issues at all.
Using Textdrive has required a steep learning curve, especially with RoR, but I think I'm better off for it.
Sorry to hear your shared server is so unreliable. Keep in mind, I doubt other hosting companies give you the control that Textdrive does. Maybe Railsbase will be better suited to us RoR folks....whenever that launches! ;)
