Scoble's excellent assessment of Microsoft 0
Scoble's blog is getting better now that he's no longer at MSFT. Today he posted what I think is his best analysis of Microsoft yet.
I recently ranted about Microsoft's advertising campaigns but I think Scoble summed it up better than I ever could:
Again, Microsofties, you’d be better served not to talk trash until you have something YOU CAN SHIP!
I think that cuts to the core what I was feeling. Over the past 5 years, Microsoft has done more talking about software than delivering said software. Visual Studio and Vista and easy examples, but I think in other product areas too. Perhaps too many of their best developers get "promoted" to management, ending up in more talking and less coding. John Lam apparently loves his new job at Microsoft, but I was taken aback when I read this at the end of a recent entry on his blog:
I’m also spending time figuring out what it means to be a ‘Program Manager’. I suspect that will take the longest amount of time to figure out. But as far as I can tell, it involves an awful lot of meetings :)
Yes, I think Scoble is right on the money this time.
