Save The Date!

We're excited to announce our next training class!

Essential Rails

September 21-22, 2007

Our Web Developer Makeover class (back in January) went so well, we've expanded it to two days worth of material and have renamed it Essential Rails. We're gearing it specifically for those who are new to Rails, and even new to web development in general. If you're kind of tired of reading books, reading blogs, and you're still not sure how to get yourself up and running, this class is for you.

  • In two short days you'll learn the essentials of the Rails framework and development toolset.
  • No intimidating environment. And we also keep the class sizes small to make sure no one feels left behind.
  • You don't have to know anything about Rails before you come to the class, except for having Ruby and Rails installed on your laptop (which we can personally help with, if needed).
  • If you already know some Rails, but are ready to get past the beginner stage, this class will be great fit. We'll be focusing on Rails 2.0.
  • No boring hours of watching powerpoint slides. We'll be coding real applications together for two days. You'll leave Chicago knowing you can write real Rails code, not just hoping you'll really "figure it all out" when you get home.
  • Of course, free food.

Location: Chicago, IL (exact location tba)

When: Friday September 21 and Saturday, September 22.

Cost: $495 per person, includes breakfast and lunch both days.

Oh, man... I need to be there! :)

I was there with Brian and Jeff for the first class, and it was great. I totally recommend this.

I would be all over this conference if it wasn't designed for Microsoft developers... Your description of the conference on this site doesn't seem to say anything about that, but on Jeff Cohen's website, he specifically writes, "I am co-teaching a 1-day class in January in Chicago on Ruby on Rails, specifically geared for Microsoft developers."

You should mention that in the conference description on this website, as you might get some people attending who show up and are disappointed.

Josh: Indeed, we are (former) Microsoft developers. But in fact, the conference isn't geared toward Microsoft developers really. Which is why we specifically did not mention it in the announcement. As anyone who attended our seminar back in January will tell you (and we had a variety of folks, including web designers, Java, and PHP developers) we spoke very little about Microsoft development, aside from comparing/contrasting Rails with the "enterprise" side of things. But thanks for pointing this out. We'll be sure to make this clear in our formal announcement. And hope this changes your mind about stopping by.

Since knowledge of the things in themselves is a posteriori, our faculties, in accordance with the principles of our concepts, should only be used as a canon for pure logic, yet necessity should only be used as a canon for the architectonic of natural reason.
