Ruby and .NET getting closer together 1

I know there's a been a lot of talk about about Microsoft's work-in-progress "DLR", especially with respect to the Silverlight project, but I wanted to also highlight some cool things the SapphireSteel guys are doing. In addition to their excellent Visual Studio Add-In, they're also continuing to blur the boundary between .NET and Ruby and you can do it today, without the DLR.

Cool stuff, guys. Keep it up.

Thanks for the mention. Just one point, though. The Ruby Connector (the thing that lets .NET languages cooperate with Ruby) is still in development and will be released later in the year as part of Ruby In Steel Developer 1.2. The core functionality is already there and I'll be showing more demos on our site soon. The work that remains to be done is all to do with 'usability' - making sure that it's easy to use, has a good library of support methods (both on the Ruby and .NET sides), is well documented and comes with plenty of useful demo applications.

We'll release a beta version of the Ruby Connector to our customers in a few weeks or so but, as I said, the final version will be released later in the summer.

best wishes Huw Collingbourne (SapphireSteel Software)
