If you're a Java or .NET developer, or PHP, or a CSS web designer, and you want to start developing websites with Rails, this class will get you off an running. If you've been reading about Rails for a while and played around with it a bit, Essential Rails will give you the push you need to start developing real sites you can be proud of.
At a Softies class, there are no dumb questions, and you don't have to know a whole lot before you show up.
So join us if:
- You've been reading about Ruby on Rails and want to really see how to create websites with Rails
- and/or, you've found our recent articles on REST and Capistrano helpful
- and/or, you're sick and tired of developing web apps in some other framework and you're ready for some fun
- and/or, you're an CSS designer and you want to be able to do more of the website work yourself
- and/or, you tend to sign up for anything that comes with free food
Registration is only $495, and that includes breakfast, lunch, and snacks for both days.
Seating is again limited for this class. So please don't wait to sign up!
Here's what people are saying
I walked away from the workshop with a much greater understanding of the technologies and am really anxious to play around with things a bit more and see what I can do with them. Brian and Jeff did a fantastic job presenting and the whole event was well worth the price of admission...Anyways, I can’t say enough good things about the Softies on Rails event. Learned lots of really interesting things and met a bunch of very cool people. - Mike Marusin
Brian and Jeff know Ruby and Rails very well and have their own views on some key features of Rails. They did a great job of squeezing tons of material into a one day event. - Sam Sellars
By attending Jeff and Brian's Web Developer Makeover class, I was able to develop Ruby on Rails applications immediately after the class. I was thoroughly impressed with the quantity of material covered... Do yourself a favor; even if you've read the pick axe book or AWDR book, experience your own Web Developer Makeover by attending Brian and Jeff's class. You'll be amazed how much Ruby on Rails you'll code the week after the class. - Scott Stawarz, Independent Consultant and Simpleweight.com co-founder

I attended the class back in January and fully agree with the positive endorsements above. The content of the class was great and as Mike says, meeting the other attendees was half the fun. I think a two day class will prove a great benefit for anyone about to begin on their personal Rails journey.
As for my own Odyssey, I have yet to use Rails in true application although I expect that to change soon. For me Rails has also proved a great benefit in it's influence on other language communities. PHP and .NET have booth gained some frameworks and tools that were influenced by Rails. So it's a win win for all in many ways.
